Privacy-first design: MediMate is built with a local-first storage approach. Your health and medication data stays on your device. No third-party ad or tracking SDKs are used.
1. Introduction
Your privacy matters — especially when it comes to health data. This policy explains how MediMate ("we") processes, stores, and protects information when you use the mobile application.
2. Information We Process
MediMate processes the information you provide that is necessary for the app to function:
- Medication data: Medication names, dosages, schedules, frequency, meal timing preferences, and notes you enter.
- Dose records: Timestamps and statuses of your medication intake (taken, skipped, missed, snoozed).
- Appointment data: Hospital/clinic names, doctor names, specialties, dates, and reminder preferences.
- HealthKit data (optional): If you grant permission, MediMate reads medication records from Apple Health to populate your medication list. This data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted externally.
- Notification preferences: Your reminder settings and custom notification sound choices.
- Subscription status: Purchase and subscription data is managed by Apple via StoreKit. We do not collect or store your payment information.
- On-device diagnostics: If enabled in your iOS settings, Apple may provide anonymized crash/performance diagnostics.
What we do not use:
- ❌ Third-party ad networks
- ❌ Third-party user tracking or analytics
- ❌ Advertising Identifier (IDFA)
- ❌ Behavioral profiling or segmentation
- ❌ Cloud servers or external databases
3. How We Use Information
We use information only for the purposes below:
- App functionality: Managing medications, scheduling reminders, tracking dose adherence, and managing appointments.
- HealthKit integration: If you grant permission, importing medication records from Apple Health to auto-populate your medication list.
- Notifications: Sending local medication and appointment reminders at your configured times.
- Apple Watch sync: Syncing your daily medication schedule to the companion Watch app via WatchConnectivity (device-to-device, no cloud involved).
- Data export: Generating JSON backups or PDF adherence reports at your request.
- Stability: If enabled on iOS, using anonymized crash diagnostics to improve reliability.
We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising. MediMate does not transmit your health data to any server.
4. HealthKit
MediMate integrates with Apple HealthKit to read medication records (clinical health records). Key points:
- HealthKit access requires your explicit permission via the iOS Health authorization prompt.
- We read medication records only — no other health data categories are accessed.
- HealthKit data is processed and stored entirely on your device.
- HealthKit data is never shared with third parties, used for advertising, or transmitted off-device.
- Clinical health records are available only in supported regions (US, UK, AU, and others).
- You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → MediMate.
5. Storage and Security
All MediMate data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData (SQLite). There is no cloud sync or remote storage.
What's Stored Locally
- Medication records (names, schedules, dosages)
- Dose history (intake status and timestamps)
- Appointment records
- App settings and notification preferences
- HealthKit sync state (anchors and timestamps only)
iOS protects app data at the device level. System features such as device passcode and encryption help protect data stored on your device. If you uninstall the app, local data may be removed.
6. Third-Party Services
MediMate may interact with the following services:
- Apple App Store / StoreKit: Distribution, updates, and subscription management. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple.
- Apple HealthKit: On-device medication record import (no data leaves your device).
- Apple diagnostics/crash reports: Anonymized diagnostics only if enabled in your iOS settings.
No ads, no tracking: MediMate does not use third-party ad networks, analytics SDKs, or tracking infrastructure.
7. Children's Privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Data Retention
Local medication, dose, and appointment data remains on your device until you delete it within the app or uninstall the app. Exported backups (JSON files) are managed by you. Anonymized diagnostics/crash reports (if enabled) are governed by Apple's policies.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- Enable/disable HealthKit access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health
- Enable/disable notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → MediMate
- Delete individual medications, doses, or appointments within the app
- Export your data as a JSON backup before uninstalling
